![]() ![]() The EMSD maintains a publicly available list of buildings successfully certified under the scheme. The Scheme was designed to promote compliance with BECs by allowing owners/developers to have their buildings certified as BECs compliant. In conjunction with the publication of BECs, the EMSD launched the Hong Kong Energy Registration Scheme for Buildings. The codes are regularly updated and stipulate the minimum energy performance standards for the following four building services installations: (i) air-conditioning (ii) lighting (iii) lift and escalator and (iv) electrical installations. In 1998, the government’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department ( EMSD) issued a set of five building energy codes ( BECs). Since 2012, there has been a mandatory requirement to comply with minimum energy performance standards.Įnergy Efficiency Registration Scheme for Buildings However, it is possible for property owners, on a voluntary basis, to have their buildings certified as energy efficient under the Energy Efficiency Registration Scheme for Buildings. There are no mandatory energy performance certificates in Hong Kong.
